After all cats are independent. Leave the tricks to Fido. Well the author of the article below has given me pause to think. Read the article about a most amazing cat and some tips on how to teach your cat a few tricks.

By SHIRLEEN ALLICOT and HEATHER GRUBOLAMay 15, 2012 (WPVI) — Cats have long been thought to be very independent pets. They do their own thing, in their own time, when they want to. But we’ve found one local woman whose house cat goes way beyond that. Zucca is a 13-year-old delightful little house cat. And while she looks like your average cat, she’s anything but! ”She kind of blows my mind.” Dr. Cynthia Otto, Penn Veterinary Medicine, has spent years training her dog, Dolce, for competitions. She said one day, during an at-home training session, Zucca decided to join in.”Then one day she just, jumped over the jump,” she said. And from there Zucca blossomed. She can give her paw on command, roll over, play the piano and jump over hurdles. In all, Zooka knows about 35 tricks and actually has a “tricks” title she earned from a well-known trainer. ”It really has made her more interactive with us,” Dr. Otto said.

Did you read the article? Amazing isn’t it? I hoped you learned something from it. I know I did. So I guess us humans can learn new things too. Please share with your friends and hey, leave us a comment with your thoughts.

Sometimes cats misbehave in ways we don’t understand. But please be aware that when a pet cat misbehaves or acts out, there’s usually always a valid reason for it. The story of Cammie is about one such cat. Read this touching story and i’m sure your awareness of cat behavior will be enhanced.

It was not exactly love at first sight. I adopted Cameo because no one else would. She had been adopted twice from Centre County PAWS, the animal rescue organization where I volunteered, and then she’d been “returned” because she scratched people. When any of us took her out of her cage, she would get all excited—would purr and roll around on the floor, bright-eyed, or would run around attacking every toy in sight, ecstatic. When playtime was over, however, and we’d go to put her back in her cage, she would cling, hiss, and claw us viciously. Who could blame her? She had come into the shelter a teenage mother—a tiny little thing with seven kittens. She had been in the cage for nearly nine months with those doggone kittens, waiting while all of them grew up and went off to homes. You could see the accusation of injustice in her eyes.

So you see, after reading the story, there was a good reason for Cammies misbehavior, and an all too common reason at that. Thank God, her owner got to the bottom of it and we had a happy ending for this beautiful cat.

I hope you liked the story. If so please feel free to leave a comment and to share the story with your friends.

After doing some research, I was amazed to find that several “experts” describe cats as low-maintenance pets. Perhaps in some people’s minds, folks when comparing felines to canines kitties fall into this category. As far as this writer is concerned, nothing could be further from the truth.

It’s possible their rationale could be based on the myth that Cats are “self-sufficient,” rarely needing grooming or exercise. According to their opinion, feeding a kitty requires hardly any effort. All a kitty guardian has to do is set down a plate of cat food on the floor twice a day, leave plenty of dry food available and provide a bowl of fresh clean water.

Making cat ownership much easier, with the wide assortment of automatic water and food dispensers, and the advent of automatic litter box cleaners, the “nasty” task to which few kitty guardians looks forward- scooping may soon be a thing of the past. So how can kitty’s output, (so to speak) be monitored? This is an essential part of feline care.

So be very careful of the things your cat has available that may go in its mouth.

I had a friend with a kitten that knocked a clock off of a shelf. When my friend got home she found her precious pet dead on the floor.

The clock had broken and the cat had swallowed some of the small parts. Read the article below to possibly prevent a tragedy.

We know felines chew and excessively groom themselves out of boredom and stress. Let us take this theory one step further to include chewing on inappropriate things.

Have you ever watched your cat and likened its conduct to that of a human baby because everything goes in the mouth? Our felines have a natural desire to play and put things in their mouths. Sometimes the things they choose to play with can cause an emergency trip to the veterinarian.

If you have a cat that likes to mouth things, notice if there is any consistency with the types of things he or she is helping themselves to. Some felines are fixated to a certain texture or noise an item makes when they chew on it. Some cats choose fabric because they like the crunchy texture. See if you can replace the compulsion with fabric by providing multiple crinkle balls. When they are in your cat’s mouth, the crunch stimulus is present.

An often cited reason for this health problem is the increasing caloric density of food. Cat foods, especially the dry types, have become more and more calorie dense, often exceeding 375-400 calories per cup. The average cat only needs about 200-250 calories per day!As most cats are fed “free-choice,” it is no wonder there are so many fat cats. Recent studies in cats have shown that increasing the water content of food, wet and dry, has shown to be effective in weight loss and weight maintenance post dieting.

For instance: Hairballs and worms. Do you know what to do to help prevent such things?
Do You know what to do if they are not prevented?
Never fear I have found an article for you that delves into the basics of cat care and provides answers.

It could arrive as an air max shock, if you're a brand new cat owner, that a lot of wellness troubles may befall your feline friend. Some issues are very easily preventable, even though others are hereditary. Hairballs. Hairballs …

Hairballs are among the most frequent of cat health issues. Cats groom their selves almost constantly, and swallow the loose hair that happens off their tongues. Occasionally, the hair gathers right into a ball and lodges within the cat’s digestive tract as opposed to passing on by means of the body. If your cat starts coughing and hacking, he almost certainly has a hairball. While the finish item is unpleasant for your owner, most cats do not have a problem dislodging hairballs.

But in this instance, the author of this article explains in some detail, why cat litter box liners might not be such a hot idea. I have to agree.

Are Litter Box Liners a Good Idea? – Cat Behavior Associates

www.catbehaviorassociates.com4/19/12

Litter box liners may seem like a convenient way to keep the litter box cleaner and make changing the litter a breeze. But liners can create problems for both cats and owners.

In theory, litter box liners may seem like a convenient way to keep the litter box cleaner and make changing the litter a breeze. Unfortunately though, liners can create problems for the cats who use the litter box as well as the humans who try to clean it.

A Less Than Perfect Fit
Liners that don’t fit perfectly can end up with folds in them where urine can pool and create quite a smelly situation. If the liner isn’t secured well on all sides of the box, it can fold back into the box as kitty uses her paws to cover her waste.

Diamond Pet Foods has voluntarily recalled batches of nine brands of dry pet food that were manufactured between December 9th, 2011, and April 7th, 2012.

State and Federal agencies do not track pet illnesses, so salmonella cases may have occurred even though none have been reported.
